Catgirl Budgeting, February 2019

The ominous journey to the mountain. Journey, 2012

Hawwo! OwO

This is teh first post in a series I want to do on how I am managing my income; it is a concept I’ve been thinking about doing for a while. There are several reasons why I’ve considered something like this to be useful for me:
1) to be held accountable for the goals I’ve set out for myself
2) to log visible progress toward my goals
3) to demonstrate that effectively managing your resources over time can lead to big victories

With that in mind, this is the first month and so I’ll be breaking down the logic and reasoning behind my decisions. Future entries on budgeting may be less wordy, and moar numbery. UwU

February Budget

Saving

From left to right, I ordered each category by most important to least important. The biggest and most urgent thing I need to take care of is transitioning, so my savings into the Catgirl Grand Campaign takes the first spot, as well as additional savings for emergencies and stuffs. Because this is my current primary goal this is where I hope most of my monies can maek it, but even though I dun have much to work with I’m still glad I can at least set something aside. To get myself to continue working, I always remind myself that most of my efforts will be and should be going toward this goal. 🐱🐱🐱 For an overall picture of the progress toward transitioning costs, you can see the campaign details here.

Rent

I did not account for rent in the first three weeks of this month’s budget since it’s not something I need to be concerned about at the moment, for which I am incredibly fortunate. However, I know for a fact that this will be an upcoming expense, so for the final week I’ve created a new category where I will be tossing in 20%. For the time being this will count as backup monies in case I’m short on rent at some point in the future, so this will be here to tank some inevitable risk.

I do not yet know if I will be pouring 20% into this category infinitely or if I will slow down or stop putting monies into this category once I reach a certain amount. As the future unfolds I will likely have a better understanding of the situation with which to make an informed choice. 🏠

Monsters

After rent, the next most important thing is student loans, which are monsters because they are a massive beast that consumes everything and keeps getting moar bigger if not dealt with immediately!!! 3:< I cannot allow these monsters to go without response because they’re eating into my future, so while I would rather use that monies to save for transitioning or buying cute things, I am moar than willing to sacrifice some monies now to ensure I keep cutting the monster down little by little. This month I finally cut down these two monsters below 10k HP!

This is a big one because I know many graduates in the US are paralyzed and terrified of their student loans, living under the impression that they can never be paid off. Butt I think it is entirely possible and doable, as long as you cut out all unnecessary expenses. If I weren’t born under unfortunate circumstances, I would be using all of that transitioning monies to kill monsters instead, and I would be slaying them moar faster. Imagine how quickly you could kill your monsters if you didn’t have some urgent, expensive medical condition to address first?

I think I will keep these payments to approximately $25 each month, and maybe on a good week like the upcoming March 1st, I may toss in a bit moar to tackle some interest to keep the monsters from getting too stronk.

Spending Mons

Lastly, I use a tiny bit of earnings to buy things with. I generally dun need to worry about foods, so I am again taking advantage of the fact that my expenses are low in order to lay the foundations for a more solid and financially stable future. Most of the monies here is used for necessary hygiene and transportation stuff anyway. These are funds that will stay in checking, ready to be used when needed. Butt even then, I am trying to set up about a small buffer of $50 that I will not spend unless absolutely needed; I like to think of it as an emergency fund for my rent emergency fund, for my actual emergency fund. x3

On top of that $50, I will keep only enough extra monies for upcoming expenses like shampoos and foods for my kitty. Teh point of this is to discourage spending as much as possible on present needs. For the third week of February, I was not given my full payment, so I completely cut out any monies for myself form that week. So while it may not be ideal, I do also use some of the monies on nice things. So to encourage myself, maybe in two months I’ll be able to afford a yommy pizza to reward myself for properly budgeting and sticking to my plans! 🍕🍕🍕 Nomnomnom!!! ^w^

Closing Th0ts

Is liekly that I may get moar hours, and therefore moar mons in the coming months, and that would be great for medical savings. I also think I’m glad that I have the foresight to plan for rent monies nao and lay the groundwork for that. Furthermore, I recently filed muh taxes, so I may be able to put some of the refund into entirely canceling out the interest on the monsters to minimize the monster growth. Also, I need to adjust my withholding. Lul
